ServiceDesk 4.8.222 Update 7/27/21

A Little Bit of Modernization in Look and Color

Sure, we get it. A number of Rossware interfaces do not fit well with current computer screen fashions.

Of course, we believe, since it's business our systems are being used to manage, it's functionality that's absolute king.

Regardless, there is nothing wrong with having interfaces that are relatively more pleasing to the eyes.

That's why, in some of the major working interfaces, this release of ServiceDesk adds a little color and muted shadings, as compared to before.

A good example is what we've done in the Current-JobRecords interface:

We hope you like the new look.

Added Field in TimeCard Files

One of our users has his techs beginning at the office each day, and requires them to use a computer there for their TimeCard punch-ins. He found some techs were cheating by loading SD-Mobile into their smartphones, and doing TimeCard punch-ins before ever getting to the office. He asked for a new field in the TimeCard files that would indicate if a punch-in or punch-out was done via SD-Mobile. That new field is now added.

Option to Rotate Image in SD-QuickPics Preview Window

You know how hateful it is when your tech gets the image of a model/serial plate sideways or upside-down?

Makes it rather more difficult to read the numbers, right.

Well, we added a solution. It's the new, little rotate buttons you may now see:

Added Marcone and Reliable to Model Lookup Options

In a number of Rossware venues, both within ServiceDesk and in the various versions of SD-Mobile, you invoke an option to do any of several different lookups on a model number you happen to be looking at. We just added two more options to that list:

Automated Parts Ordering from Tribles

When in the F8 PartsProcess form you mark one more items for inclusion in an order request, and then hit Enter, you are presented with several options, in terms of how you want to communicate your request to a vendor. We just added another:

Like the "Marcone direct" option that was added about a year ago, this method connects directly to the indicated vendor's electronic ordering system, directly orders the items for you, and directly places relevant order information right back into ServiceDesk.

Automation is king!

Option to Exclude Parts Assurance Messages in Particular Situations

As first announced here, automated sending of parts-assurance messages has been a big hit. Scores upon scores of Rossware users are using the system to automatically send customers messages, when waiting on parts, assuring that they've not been forgotten.

And we keep tweaking, to make the system better.

As announced here, for example, we added an option whereby you may exclude any particular customer (a person who does not receive such messages, in particular) from being included in such sends.

In this release we've added more.

In particular, we learned from clients of two situation categories where sending of the messages may not be wanted:

  • Where the parts that are being waited on were ordered via triage, rather than in consequence of a technician's visit; and

  • Where there is already a return appointment pending

Given our added awareness of these situations, we added options to exclude such categories from the automated sends:

The "Exclude if appointment is pending" option will automatically default to being turned on. You'll need to un-check if it's not an option you prefer.

Automated Uploading of Parts Inventory Information to Samsung

Though this is not a function of ServiceDesk directly, it's something that we nevertheless want to let you know about here.

If you do work for Samsung, and if Samsung wants to be provided with information regarding such Samsung parts inventory as you have in stock, our Samsung-DispatchLink utility will now automatically upload that information.
