Instantly See All Parts You've Used on a Particular Machine

This feature was intelligently(and repeatedly) requested by Ken at Shaughnessy Appliance Service, Ltd in Saskatoon, Canada.

Over time your company may find itself having done repeated jobs on the same machine. Perhaps it first did an in-warranty job in a dealer-stock situation, for example, then did another in-warranty job in the customer's home. Perhaps the home was sold (and with the appliance), then you did one or more jobs for the new homeowner on that same machine and at the same address. Perhaps the machine was sold to someone else and moved to a different address, and you're called to work on the same machine but for this new customer and at the new address.

Regardless of such permutations, the UnitInfo environment, has long provided an easy way to tie all such "same-machine-connected" jobs together. Just bring up the particular UIS (UnitInfoSheet) that's applicable to the machine in question, then click on the needed button:

You can click on any displayed job reference to instantly see the JobRecord, and can even click on the "Print Summary" button to create a historical summary of all such jobs.

But Ken wanted something else. Specifically, he wanted ability to instantly see a list of all such parts as have been used on the machine (whether from inventory or via special-order), across the history of all such jobs. It's true you could already obtain such information by individually clicking to open each job (and from there examine) or by creating the summary then wading through its narrative. Obviously, however, those methods were relatively laborious.

So, we finally yielded to Ken and provided what he asked for. The rest of you will likewise benefit (thank you Ken).

The trick to get this new summary is indicated by a ToolTip when you float your mousepointer over that same, above-referenced button:

When you invoke the action ToolTip-described, you'll instantly see the promised listing:

Naturally, you can click on any such listing and ServiceDesk will instantly display the JobRecord that is applicable to the usage.

Thanks again Ken.
