SDOnline setup guide

Edited

SDOnline lets your team work CallSheets from a browser at sd.rossware.com. It reads your ServiceDesk data through a small bridge program that runs on your server.

!! Before you start !!

  • Install this once, on the server computer that holds your ServiceDesk data, never on a workstation.

  • Keep at least 30 GB free on that drive;

  • The bridge keeps a companion database that starts around 2 GB and will grow as needed.

  • You need administrator rights on the server.

Downloading the installer

Download the installer on the server computer from our downloads page.

Install-SDOnline.cmd for Rossware Updater 0.1.0.

The installer expires after 7 days; download a new installer if it has expired.

Prefer to install by hand?

  • Download rwupdate.exe.

  • Open a Command Prompt (Run as administrator).

  • Change the directory to the folder you saved the updater to.

  • Run "rwupdate.exe install".

Running the installer

  • Double-click Install-SDOnline.cmd.

  • Approve the administrator prompt.

    • If Windows shows "Windows protected your PC", choose More info, then Run anyway.

Confirm your ServiceDesk folders

  • The installer lists the ServiceDesk folders it found. Press Enter to accept them.

  • If data for the same business shows up on multiple drives, select the instance containing live data, not backup data.

  • Press A to add a folder it missed.

    • Folders on mapped drives don't appear in the administrator window, so enter their network path instead, for example: \\server\sd.

Wait for it to connect

Tip! It may take up to a minute for the bridge program to connect and read your data. Please be patient during this process.

If your bridge program has not yet connected you may receive a message similar to, "Your bridge is set up but isn't connected right now. Make sure the server computer is on and online." If this is the case, please give it another minute to connect.

Good to know

  • Each ServiceDesk installation on the server gets its own bridge service. That's expected.

  • The updater runs as the Windows service "Rossware Program Updater" and keeps the bridge up to date. Its log is next to rwupdate.exe in C:\ProgramData\Rossware\rwupdate.

  • To remove it, run rwupdate.exe uninstall from an administrator Command Prompt.
